Woven Together: An Exhibition of Student Work

We are excited to present Woven Together, an exhibition showcasing the incredible work of our weaving students from Kent Adult Education. This exhibition is a testament to the dedication and creativity of our learners, all under the expert guidance of our weaving tutor, Claire Bessel.

The exhibition features a variety of techniques, including Plain Weave, Twill, Houndstooth, Krokbragt, Dräll, Deflected Double Weave, Beiderwand, and Overshot Double Weave. Each piece highlights the extensive knowledge and skills our students have gained through our courses.

The Rich Tradition of Weaving

Weaving is an ancient craft that has been passed down through generations. Kent, like many regions, has a rich textile heritage, and through our courses, we aim to preserve this tradition. Weaving connects us to history and provides a sustainable way to create, express ourselves and explore our creativity.

The Benefits of Weaving

Weaving is more than just creating beautiful textiles. It offers a chance to slow down and reconnect with our surroundings, ourselves and our imaginations. As learners explore different techniques, they build technical expertise while crafting pieces that reflect their personal visions. Weaving teaches valuable skills that encourage sustainable thinking and self-sufficiency through creativity - essential qualities in today's fast-paced world.

Join Our Weaving Courses

If you're inspired by this exhibition and want to try weaving, join our Beginners Weaving Course, starting Thursday 15th May 2025 at The Amelia, Tunbridge Wells. This introductory class will introduce you to the art of weaving on a loom and the process of preparing a loom for weaving. You will follow a simple set weaving plan to understand the craft, explore colour effects and start to see how a weave is formed. The class is designed for complete beginners or those who have not yet been introduced to the basics of setting up a weaving. You will be taught the necessary skills to plan a weaving, interpret a draft plan, create a warp, beam a warp, prepare the loom for weaving, and weave. By the end of the course, you should be able to recognise basic weaves, wind a warp, dress a loom and weave successfully with some level of support.
