You must meet the entry requirements for the course
- You must be a UK national, or an Irish national, or an EEA national with pre-settled or settled status under the EU Settlement scheme
- You must have been resident in the UK or an EEA country continuously for the 3 years preceding the start date of your course. For learners living in the Greater London Authority area only you must have valid permission to live in the UK for at least 12 months in duration from the start date of your course.
- You must be aged 19 or over as at the 31st August 2024 for courses in the 2024/25 academic year
- You must agree to commit to and complete an Individual Learning Plan in agreement with your course tutor
Who can join this course
Students interested in the AAT courses will be required to complete an initial assessment prior to enrolling on the course, to ensure that this is the most suitable course for you. You will need basic computing skills to attend this course as it is online and the final exam is computer-based. You should be able to follow spoken and written instructions, read handouts/activities and take part in group discussions.
This course is aimed at those who are new to the skills and knowledge required of bookkeepers. It is suitable for students studying in preparation for employment in bookkeeping roles and for those who are already employed in bookkeeping and/or data processing roles.
You will need a computer/laptop with a camera, a calculator (not one built into a mobile phone), a notepad, pen, pencil, eraser and ruler. Your tutor will advise you at the start of the course of anything else that you may need.
**PLEASE NOTE: In order to complete the course and gain a certificate, you will need to pass one computer-based exam. This assessment will take place in The Amelia in Tunbridge Wells on 9th May but please ensure you are available the following week which is the planned alternative exam date in case of unavoidable course alterations.**
**PLEASE NOTE: You must register with AAT in order to take the exam and gain the certificate. You will need to complete registration by the third week of the course. You will need to pay a qualification fee (£46) directly to AAT in order to register for the exam. The fee covers this qualification's lifetime. Registration provides you with access to online learning materials which will support you with your study.**
**PLEASE NOTE: As this is an accredited course, regular attendance, a high level of commitment and approximately 2.5 hours of home study per week are required from you when enrolling on this course. You may be removed from the course if you do not regularly attend. Are you new to bookkeeping, or do you wish to develop your business support skills? Then this 'AAT Award In Bookkeeping Level 1 - Online Live' course is for you. It will introduce you to bookkeeping and provide you with a fundamental understanding of the principles of single entry bookkeeping in the context of a manual process.
On successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
1. Understand the role of the bookkeeper.
2. Understand financial transactions.
3. Process customer and supplier transactions.
4. Process receipts and payments.
5. Understand the benefits and risks of using accounting software to complete bookkeeping tasks
