Who can join this course
This KAE Studio course is designed for those attending purely for leisure purposes.
It is also aimed at those who have reached their permissible limit on our Tailored Learning progression Creative provision and do not want to move on to the range of Vocational or Accredited courses offered. All levels are welcome to join this course.
Is this course for me
In this course you will learn the techniques to make Christmas Gonk Cupcakes. You will decorate 12 cupcakes using a range of techniques to create these loveable Christmas characters

* Show how to colour sugarpaste evenly
* Explain how to cut a circle of sugarpaste to cover top of cupcake
* Describe a technique to create the beard
* List three Health and Safety points related to modelling
You will also be asked to think of Personal Aims to individualise your learning experience, as well as other benefits the course may have.
What will I need for my course
Please bring along the following items to this course:-
- 12 Cupcakes
- 500g pack Ready to Roll Fondant Icing (can be bought from a supermarket)
- Pack Dr Oetker Ready to Roll Coloured Fondant
- Buttercream, either homemade or shop bought
- Plain round cutter same size as top of cupcake
- Small rolling pin
- Palette knife
- Sharp knife
- Craft knife
- Paintbrush
- Small pot for water
- Box to take cakes home in
Please bring any cake decorating equipment you may have.

CUPCAKE RECIPE
Makes approximately 12 – 15 cupcakes , depending on size of cupcake case
150g Soft Butter
150g Caster Sugar
3 Eggs
150g Self Raising Flour
1 tspn Vanilla Extract
Pre heat oven to 160°C, Gas 4
1. Cream butter and sugar together
2. Beat eggs lightly add slowly to the mix with the vanilla extract. If the mixture starts to curdle add a little of the flour. Once the eggs and butter mixture are combined, add the remaining flour at a low speed.
3. Divide the mixture between the muffin cases, filling them about half full.
4. Bake for 18 -20 minutes or until the sponge is lightly golden and springs back to the touch.
5. Leave to cool

For Health & Safety, please do not wear open toed shoes.
It is important to note that art and craft courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity. Also, please make your tutor aware of any pre-existing health conditions that may impact on your learning.
