This KAE Studio course is designed for those attending purely for leisure purposes.
It is also aimed at those who have reached their permissible limit on our Tailored Learning progression Creative provision and do not want to move on to the range of Vocational or Accredited courses offered. This course is for those interested in cake decorating and modelling. No experience necessary.
Is this course for me
Christmas is coming! In this course, you will learn the skills to create a cute Christmas ‘Me to You Bear’
‘Simply’ learn the basic techniques to get you started modelling in this short course.
You will learn how to make modelling paste, colour and make simple shapes to create the bear, can be used as a Christmas cake top decoration, a Christmas ornament or adapted for a birthday cake

Creative courses aim to build confidence through learning, allowing students to express themselves, think critically, and collaborate with their peers. By empowering our students to become confident, imaginative, and adaptable learners, we aim to develop students' curiosity, resilience, and adaptability, preparing them for future challenges, opportunities, and personal development.

* Explain how to make modelling paste
* Demonstrate how to model simple shapes for body parts
* Describe how to create the textured fur
* List three Health and Safety points relating to Wired Sugar Flowers
You will also be asked to think of Personal Aims to individualise your learning experience, as well as other benefits the course may have.
What will I need for my course
Please bring along the following items to this course:-
- A notebook and pen
- 1kg pack of white roll out fondant icing (can be bought from any supermarket)
- Pack of Dr Oetker coloured fondant icing
- Pot of either Sugarflair Sugarcel, CMC powder or Tylos powder (can be bought online from any cake decorating suppliers or on Amazon)
- Small cranked handled pallet knife
- Small lidded pot for glue or ready made glue from a cake decorating supplier
- Small paintbrush
- A pot of Sugarflair Shadow Grey gel colour (to colour sugarpaste for body)
- Craft Knife
- Cocktail sticks
- Small digital scales (if you have them, please do not buy) these will help to weigh sugarpaste for body parts
- Box to take model home in
If you have any cake decorating modelling tools, please bring them with you

Your tutor will advise you on follow-on courses relevant to their subject.
You can also attend Vocational or Accredited courses in a range of the Creative subjects on offer.
Additional Information
For Health & Safety, please do not wear open toed shoes.
It is important to note that art and craft courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity. Also, please make your tutor aware of any pre-existing health conditions that may impact on your learning.
