Who can join this course

Before enrolling on this Level 2 course, you will need to complete an online application form available at this link - https://forms.office.com/r/5GDWBwXyB3

Following
submission of your application you will need to complete the online literacy assessment using the link - https://forms.office.com/r/YUrHqyUurx

This
checks your suitability for the course and helps identify any additional support required. You will now need to ring 03000 412222 to book an interview slot. This will be confirmed at a later date and you will be sent a Zoom link.

The interview involves an informal and honest discussion with a Counselling tutor about your personal readiness, the content and level of the course which then ensures that you understand the personal, educational and financial commitments.

Places are often taken up quickly so early application is highly recommended. It is not necessary to have completed a Counselling Skills Introduction Award course before enrolling on this course, but we do advise those with no previous listening/helping experience and knowledge to do so.

It is recommended that you don't enrol on this course if you have undergone a life-changing experience during the last 12 months, ie. bereavement. You will be expected to explore some personal history that you feel safe to share but this course is not a replacement for personal therapy.

• The counselling setting
• Improving observation
• Listening skills including blocks to listening
• Responding skills
• Deeper level counselling skills and processes
• The importance of therapeutic alliance to the helping process
• Awareness, acceptance and understanding of self and others

Students will also be considering self-awareness;
• Who am I?
• How do I respond to others?
• How do others respond to me, in my work helping others?
• What more do I need to work on and where do I go for support with this?
• Some of the processes and dynamics of group work
