This Level 2 course will be taught in Oakwood House in Maidstone.
It is ideal for anyone who wants to extend their skills with people. Counselling skills have proven to be effective in many work roles where interactions between people occur. For those who are looking for a change of career to take them into one of the helping professions, this is an excellent starting point and is the first step on the professional route to qualify as a Counsellor. It is particularly relevant for those in education, health, social services, a voluntary organisation, personnel or management.
This Level 2 course will cover:
• The importance of the counselling process of maintaining appropriate moral and ethical standards according to The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical Framework
• The counselling setting
• Improving observation
• Listening skills including blocks to listening
• Responding skills
• Deeper level counselling skills and processes
• The importance of therapeutic alliance to the helping process
• Awareness, acceptance and understanding of self and others
Students will also be considering self-awareness;
• Who am I?
• How do I respond to others?
• How do others respond to me, in my work helping others?
• What more do I need to work on and where do I go for support with this?
• Some of the processes and dynamics of group work
• How to work with loss and grief
