Who can join this course

Digital Functional Skills (DFS) courses are available for UK or Irish nationals, or EEA nationals with pre-settled or settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme and those who have lived in the UK for at least three years.
If you do not currently meet this criteria, you may still be able to attend our DFS courses if you have an eligible residency status, you will be required to provide further details regarding your status before you can be enrolled.

Acceptance on a KAE Skills DFS course does not constitute an immigration sponsorship and no Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) certificate will be issued.

Before enrolling on an DFS course you will need to complete an initial assessment. Please book an interview at your local centre.

Digital Functional Skills courses are FREE.

Is this course for me

The course is for students who already have some basic IT skills and who want to take an IT qualification at Entry 3 or Level 1. Essential Digital Skills Entry 3 qualification is a fantastic opportunity to learn and develop your digital skills.

The course will be divided into 5 areas which are:
• Using devices and handling information
• Creating and Editing
• Communicating
• Transacting
• Being safe and responsible online

The software you will be using will be: Microsoft Word Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel. In class you will be using a Windows desktop computer. We will also look at the different devices learners have, such as phones and tablets.

Each area of the course is designed to give you the skills and the confidence that you will be able to use in both your personal and work life From communicating with your friends and family online to uploading a holiday photograph. As well as working with digital media to create and e-mail documents.

You will be given the support you need to complete tasks, and the opportunity to receive help and advice from your tutor each lesson.

What will I need for my course

Dictionary, ring binder for handouts and homework, paper and pen. If you are studying online Digital Functional Skills, you will need a laptop or computer with good Internet connection, a working microphone and camera.

Additional Information

From 1st August 2024, the Department for Education (DfE) require that learners attending this course must identify their primary purpose for learning. This course is not available for learners whose main aim is to learn a hobby, or for leisure/pleasure.

Assessment is needed before joining this course. Please contact your local centre to complete an application.

To get the most out of your course we recommend you attend at least 85% of your sessions. If you do have a pre-arranged commitments booked during term time, please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcome.
