Is this course for me

This course is designed for all levels. Learn how to prepare, cut and produce your own Kimono. You
will be guided through each stage by your tutor who will teach you all the processes needed to
complete your Kimono.

There is no set ‘homework’, but to get the most out of the course, you are welcome to do further work at home.
There is no qualification for this course.

Course aims

By the end of the course you should be able to:

* Cut out in fabric provided pattern
* Produce a Kimono garment.
* Use sewing techniques as required by your garment pattern.
* Follow Health and Safety guidlines to use tools and equipment

You will also be asked to think of Personal Aims to individualise your learning experience, as well as another benefits the course may have.

What will I need for my course

Your sewing machine; there are some sewing machines at the Centre, but it is best that you get used to using your own. You will need to supply your own materials: please bring along -
Fabric on 115cm or 150cm wide 2.50 metres if fabric is 90cm - 3 metres,
Contrast fabric (optional) for belt and front band 1 metre any width.
Best fabric for the kimono is a lightweight/mediumweight cotton or polycotton. Duvet cover from a charity shop can work.
Also scissors, tape measure, pins, fabric, matching sewing thread.

Additional Information

From 1st August 2024, the Department for Education (DfE) require that learners attending this course must identify their primary purpose for learning. This course is not available for learners whose main aim is to learn a hobby, or for leisure/pleasure.

To get the most out of your course we recommend you attend at least 85% of your sessions. If you do have a pre-arranged commitments booked during term time, please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcome.
