Who can join this course

This is one of our Tailored learning Entry level (Beginners) First Steps courses. This course is for learners who have not studied with us previously in Languages at Level 1 or above.
Eligible learners may enrol onto entry level courses in Languages up to a maximum of 120 guided learning hours in total.
Please refer to our Course details for the guided learning hours assigned to this course.
If you have already reached the maximum guided learning hours in Languages at entry level, you should look to progress to Language courses at Level 1 (Beginners Plus).

This course is for students with no previous knowledge of the language. A travelogue is a written account of a person's travels, capturing the essence of their journey through detailed descriptions, personal reflections, and cultural observations. It often includes anecdotes, interviews, and vivid imagery to bring the travel experience to life for readers. In this course, you'll learn how to craft a compelling travelogue in French, incorporating your own travel experiences and interviews with locals to create a rich, immersive narrative.

This course is designed for beginners who want to learn French through the engaging process of writing a travelogue. The course combines language learning with cultural exploration and practical skills, focusing on famous French-speaking destinations and hospitality elements.

This course is for you if you would like to start studying the language at a basic level. Basic grammar will be covered throughout the course. If you have a passion for travel and storytelling, this course is tailored for you. It allows you to explore new places and share your experiences in French. For those interested in learning French from scratch, this course provides a beginner-friendly approach, ensuring that you can start with no prior knowledge. The course also focuses on improving your speaking and interviewing skills through practical exercises, making it ideal for anyone looking to enhance their conversational abilities. Additionally, if you are curious about French-speaking cultures, each week’s theme will immerse you in different destinations, offering cultural insights and hospitality knowledge. If any of these aspects resonate with you, then this course is definitely for you!

Course aims

By the end of the course you should be able to:

* 1. Demonstrate the ability to use basic French vocabulary and phrases for everyday interactions, including greetings, directions, and ordering food
* 2. Create a detailed and engaging travelogue in French, incorporating descriptive, narrative, informative, reflective, and interview-based writing styles
* 3. Develop and practice interviewing skills in French, including formulating questions, conducting interviews, and integrating interview content into written work
* 4. Gain insights into the culture, landmarks, and hospitality practices of various French-speaking destinations, enhancing cultural awareness and appreciation
* 5. Confidently present excerpts from their travelogue in French, demonstrating improved public speaking skills and the ability to share their travel experiences with others

You will also be asked to think of Personal Aims to individualise your learning experience, as well as another benefits the course may have.

From 1st August 2024, the Department for Education (DfE) require that learners attending this course must identify their primary purpose for learning. This course is not available for learners whose main aim is to learn a hobby, or for leisure/pleasure.
