This course is for anyone with an interest in gardening and would like to find out more about garden design.
Is this course for me
This course has been created to help you get the best from your existing garden, or start the process of creating a new one. Learn how to entice a journey around the space, install garden features and focal points and choose beautiful plants that will thrive and look good all year.
Week by week you will focus on the following topics:-
1.General design principles, deal with difficult areas, hard landscaping (paths, seating areas,
boundaries, focal points, vistas)
2. Right plant right place. Using foliage. Pruning and its effects – e.g. topiary, pollarding,
promoting and controlling growth.
3. How to bring cohesion to a design. Garden styles and how to achieve them.
4. Structure from shrubs and trees. Autumn colour. hedges, evergreens and the winter garden.
5. Colour schemes and planting plans. How to keep colour in the borders all summer long.
Bulbs, biennials, annuals, perennials
6. Light effects. Grasses and late summer perennials, using annuals, bulbs and self-seeders.
This course will be taught by Jo Arnell. Jo is RHS trained in Horticulture and Garden Design, with an emphasis on plants and borders, Jo is keen to inspire everyone to enjoy growing and living with plants through the seasons.
