Who can join this course

This is one of our Tailored learning Entry level (Beginners) First Steps courses. This course is for learners who have not studied with us previously in Languages at Level 1 or above.
Eligible learners may enrol onto entry level courses in Languages up to a maximum of 120 guided learning hours in total.
Please refer to our Course details for the guided learning hours assigned to this course.
If you have already reached the maximum guided learning hours in Languages at entry level, you should look to progress to Language courses at Level 1 (Beginners Plus).

This course is for students with no previous knowledge of the language.

Is this course for me

This course is for you if you would like to start studying the language at a basic level. Basic grammar will be covered throughout the course. If you have no prior knowledge of German and are eager to learn a new language for travel, work, or personal interest, this course is perfect for you. It is designed to be interactive and enjoyable, ensuring that you build a solid foundation in German while also gaining an appreciation for the culture. Whether you are a student, a professional, or simply a language enthusiast, this course will provide you with the essential skills to start communicating in German.

Course aims

By the end of the course you should be able to:

* Use basic phrases to introduce themselves and others, and exchange simple personal information
* Participate in simple dialogues about everyday topics such as family, hobbies, and daily routines
* Read and comprehend basic texts like signs, menus, and short messages
* Construct simple sentences and short paragraphs, such as writing a postcard or a brief email
* Recognse and understand key cultural elements of German-speaking countries

You will also be asked to think of Personal Aims to individualise your learning experience, as well as another benefits the course may have.

Additional Information

From 1st August 2024, the Department for Education (DfE) require that learners attending this course must identify their primary purpose for learning. This course is not available for learners whose main aim is to learn a hobby, or for leisure/pleasure.

If you do have a pre-arranged commitments booked during term time, please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcome.
