Who can join this course

Anyone can join this course, but a suitable amount of practical pre-experience is recommended. This
course explores all the major functions of a spreadsheet as used at work or at home, so that you can
produce professional looking charts and spreadsheets.

Is this course for me

This 'Microsoft® Excel - Refresh Your Skills' course is for those who have some computer literacy and
who wish to learn more about Excel 2016, Microsoft's® spreadsheet package. It will help if you know
the basics of the program.

Course aims

By the end of the course you should be able to:

* Learn to create Microsoft® Word documents - writing and editing text; inserting and modifying tables
* Learn to create Microsoft® Excel documents - creating simple formulae, merging cells and additional
* Explore a topic of interest to the group - for example, e-mail, file management or further Microsoft®-related tasks
* Gain confidence in your improving ability to navigate a computer

What will I need for my course

A notepad and pen. It is recommended that you have access to a computer and internet to be able to
practise between sessions what is covered in the lessons. Please bring a USB memory stick with you,
if you wish to take away any of your data.

What can I do next

We offer a range of computing courses, including courses that develop general skills, courses
focused on programs such as Microsoft® Word and courses which lead to qualifications. Your tutor can
suggest other appropriate progression routes for you based on your learning aims.

Additional Information

From 1st August 2024, the Department for Education (DfE) require that learners attending this course must identify their primary purpose for learning. This course is not available for learners whose main aim is to learn a hobby, or for leisure/pleasure.

Pre-assessment is not required. The course is suitable for learners with some entry-level computer
experience, and if you are an absolute beginner it is recommended that you complete 'The Basics -
First Steps to Using a Computer' and 'Further Steps - Increase Your Computing Skills' prior to joining.

To get the most out of your course we recommend you attend at least 85% of your sessions. If you do have a pre-arranged commitments booked during term time, please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcome.
