Who can join this course

This KAE Studio course is designed for those attending purely for leisure purposes.

It is also aimed at those who have reached their permissible limit on our Tailored Learning progression Creative provision and do not want to move on to the range of Vocational or Accredited courses offered.
This course is suitable for beginners/those with no experience of the subject.

Is this course for me

Stumpwork is a three-dimensional form and is also known as raised embroidery There is so much creative freedom in stitch.

In this session we will focus on eight different stumpwork stitches such as turkey rug. You will be given guidance on how these stitches can be translated to fill your design. We will also explore the use of wire to create sculptural pieces.

By the end of the course you should be able to:

What will I need for my course

Please bring the following items with you to this course:-

- A piece of fabric (approximately 24cm square) - plain or patterned
- A piece of ribbon - 30cm long and approximately 6mm wide - any colour
- Embroidery cotton (e.g. Gutterman) - a small reel of any colour
- Embroidery threads (Anchor or DMC) - available from sewing shops/haberdashers/Hobbycraft - 2 or 3 skeins - any colour/different colours
- A small amount of wool - any scraps will do
- An embroidery needle (if you have one) or a standard sewing needle
- Scrap pieces of fabric, thread, ribbons etc

What can I do next

Your tutor will advise you on follow-on courses relevant to their subject.
You can also attend Vocational or Accredited courses in a range of the Creative subjects on offer.

Additional Information

For Health & Safety, please do not wear open toed shoes.

It is important to note that art and craft courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity. Also, please make your tutor aware of any pre-existing health conditions that may impact on your learning.
