You must meet the entry requirements for the course
- You must be a UK national, or an Irish national, or an EEA national with pre-settled or settled status under the EU Settlement scheme
- You must have been resident in the UK or an EEA country continuously for the 3 years preceding the start date of your course. For learners living in the Greater London Authority area only you must have valid permission to live in the UK for at least 12 months in duration from the start date of your course.
- You must be aged 19 or over as at the 31st August 2024 for courses in the 2024/25 academic year
- You must agree to commit to and complete an Individual Learning Plan in agreement with your course tutor
Who can join this course
Independent Living Skills (ILS) courses are available for UK or Irish nationals, or EEA nationals with pre-settled or settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme and those who have lived in the UK for at least three years.
If you do not currently meet this criteria, you may still be able to attend our ILS courses if you have an eligible residency status, you will be required to provide further details regarding your status before you can be enrolled.
Acceptance on a KAE Skills ILS course does not constitute an immigration sponsorship and no Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) certificate will be issued.
Before enrolling on an ILS course you will need to complete an initial assessment. Please book an interview at your local centre.
We make every effort to keep our prices as low as possible and therefore regret that we cannot return payments to students who withdraw from a course. When you enrol, please understand that you are agreeing to pay the total price for the whole course, including all outstanding balances should you withdraw.
You may be eligible for a discount of your course fees; this will be dependent on your individual earnings and employment status. This will be discussed with you at your interview.
Is this course for me
Our Independent Living Skills courses are designed to cover everyday skills and knowledge for those who have a mild to moderate learning disability and/or difficulty. They are also suitable for adults with mental health difficulties or those who feel they need extra support to learn.
