Who can join this course

Everyone is welcome to join and there are no enrolment requirements for this course. This is a Level 2 course with written work required, and you will be expected to complete work at this level. You should be able to follow spoken and written instructions, read handouts/exercises and take part in group discussions.

This course is for those who have little or no prior experience of counselling or official helping roles.

The course will involve full learner participation and self-reflection. There will be personal and sensitive discussions in small and large groups, group activities and role plays followed by observer feedback. You will be asked to write a weekly reflective learning journal.

Assessment is by completion of an online portfolio and tutor observation of practical skills during the course.

The 'Counselling Skills Introduction Award CPCAB Level 2' course gives the opportunity for personal and professional development for those who work regularly with others, particularly in a supportive or advisory capacity.

This Counselling course will cover the ethical framework in which counselling takes place and enable you to gain an understanding and practice of basic counselling skills, such as listening and reflecting.

Successful completion of the course will mean that you will be able to:

- Identify basic counselling theories, practices and ethics and show how they can be used safely.
- Demonstrate improved listening and reflecting skills in your own dealings with others.
- Use initial counselling skills with a greater self-awareness.
