You must meet the entry requirements for the course
- You must be a UK national, or an Irish national, or an EEA national with pre-settled or settled status under the EU Settlement scheme
- You must have been resident in the UK or an EEA country continuously for the 3 years preceding the start date of your course. For learners living in the Greater London Authority area only you must have valid permission to live in the UK for at least 12 months in duration from the start date of your course.
- You must be aged 19 or over as at the 31st August 2024 for courses in the 2024/25 academic year
- You must agree to commit to and complete an Individual Learning Plan in agreement with your course tutor
Who can join this course
This is one of our Tailored learning Entry level (Beginners) First Steps courses. This course is for learners who have not studied with us previously in Languages at Level 1 or above.
Eligible learners may enrol onto entry level courses in Languages up to a maximum of 120 guided learning hours in total.

If you have already reached the maximum guided learning hours in Languages at entry level, you should look to progress to Language courses at Level 1 (Beginners Plus).
This course is for students with no previous knowledge of the language. This course is designed for individuals working in or aspiring to work in the hospitality and tourism industry, particularly those who interact with Italian-speaking customers. It is suitable for:

- Anyone with a passion for Italian cuisine and culture

Course aims
By the end of the course you should be able to:
* Use essential Italian vocabulary and phrases related to food, drink, and wine in hospitality settings
* Interact confidently with Italian-speaking customers, providing excellent service in restaurants, cafés, hotels, and other hospitality environments
* Demonstrate knowledge of Italian culinary traditions, regional specialties, and cultural nuances to enhance customer interactions
* Utilize Italian language skills in practical scenarios, such as taking orders, recommending dishes, and handling customer inquiries and complaints
* Employ polite and effective customer service phrases in Italian to address customer needs and ensure a positive experience
You will also be asked to think of Personal Aims to individualise your learning experience, as well as another benefits the course may have.

Additional Information
From 1st August 2024, the Department for Education (DfE) require that learners attending this course must identify their primary purpose for learning. This course is not available for learners whose main aim is to learn a hobby, or for leisure/pleasure.
To get the most out of your course we recommend you attend at least 85% of your sessions. If you do have a pre-arranged commitments booked during term time, please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcome.
