Who can join this course

The course is designed for individuals who have a basic understanding of Japanese and wish to further develop their language skills. This course will build on foundational knowledge, focusing on enhancing vocabulary, grammar, and conversational abilities.
Ideal for those who have completed an introductory Japanese course or have a basic understanding of the language, also perfect for self-taught learners who want structured guidance to improve their skills.

Is this course for me

This is the course for you if you can:
Understand and use basic Japanese phrases.
Introduce yourself and others, and ask and answer questions about personal details.
Read and write simple sentences in Hiragana and Katakana.

Course aims

By the end of the course you should be able to:

* Confidently participate in everyday conversations
* Learn and use a wider range of vocabulary related to daily activities and common situations
* Read short passages and write simple paragraphs using Hiragana, Katakana, and basic Kanji
* Gain insights into Japanese culture, customs, and etiquette, enhancing your overall language learning experience

You will also be asked to think of Personal Aims to individualise your learning experience, as well as another benefits the course may have.

Additional Information

From 1st August 2024, the Department for Education (DfE) require that learners attending this course must identify their primary purpose for learning. This course is not available for learners whose main aim is to learn a hobby, or for leisure/pleasure.

To get the most out of your course we recommend you attend at least 85% of your sessions. If you do have a pre-arranged commitments booked during term time, please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcome.
