Who can join this course

This course is designed to help absolute beginners develop basic listening and speaking skills in Korean. The emphasis will be on practical communication, enabling students to engage in simple conversations and understand everyday spoken Korean.

This course is open to absolute beginners with no prior knowledge of Korean, language enthusiasts interested in learning a new language and exploring Korean culture, travelers planning to visit Korea and wanting to learn basic communication skills, professionals looking to add Korean language skills to their professional toolkit, and students who want to start learning Korean as an additional language.

If you are someone who has no prior experience with the Korean language, this course is perfect for you. It is designed for absolute beginners who want to focus on speaking and listening rather than reading and writing.

Additionally, if you are interested in Korean culture and communication, this course will provide you with the foundational skills to engage in simple conversations and understand everyday spoken Korean.

The course is structured to be beginner-friendly, offering a supportive learning environment that emphasizes interactive and practical language learning activities. If you enjoy hands-on learning and want to start speaking Korean from day one, this course will meet your needs.

Course aims

By the end of the course you should be able to:

* Recognise and use common Korean greetings and introduce yourself and others
* Participate in basic conversations about everyday topics such as family, hobbies, and daily routines
* Understand simple spoken Korean in everyday contexts, such as shopping, dining, and asking for directions
* Develop correct pronunciation and intonation for commonly used words and phrases
* Acquire a foundational vocabulary and set of phrases for basic communication needs

You will also be asked to think of Personal Aims to individualise your learning experience, as well as another benefits the course may have.

Additional Information

From 1st August 2024, the Department for Education (DfE) require that learners attending this course must identify their primary purpose for learning. This course is not available for learners whose main aim is to learn a hobby, or for leisure/pleasure.

If you do have a pre-arranged commitments booked during term time, please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcome.
