Who can join this course

This course is for the individuals with hearing Impairments who want to enhance their communication skills.

Join this course at any time subject to availability.

Students will also benefit from sharing experiences with others who have a hearing loss. They will find lipreading classes are positive, motivating and enjoyable. They will benefit from increased observation skills, increased confidence and reduced stress.

Is this course for me

Do you struggle to understand conversations in noisy environments? This course can help you rely more on visual cues.

Course aims

By the end of the course you should be able to:

* Learn the fundamental principles of lip reading
* Identify and understand the lip shapes and movements associated with different sounds and words
* Confidently use lip reading techniques in various real-life scenarios to improve understanding and interaction
* Learn the fundamental principles of lip reading
* Use lip reading to enhance overall communication, especially in noisy environments or when auditory information is limited

You will also be asked to think of Personal Aims to individualise your learning experience, as well as another benefits the course may have.

Additional Information

From 1st August 2024, the Department for Education (DfE) require that learners attending this course must identify their primary purpose for learning. This course is not available for learners whose main aim is to learn a hobby, or for leisure/pleasure.

If you do have a pre-arranged commitments booked during term time, please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcome.
