Who can join this course

This course is for students with no previous knowledge or those with a little basic knowledge or vocabulary who want to consolidate at a Beginners pace.

Is this course for me

Do you want to be able to speak Portuguese to a basic level? This First Steps course is designed will help you to speak Portuguese at a beginners pace. You will learn to use expressions and forms appropriate to the language using verbs at present tense, gender, prepositions and adjectives.

Course aims

By the end of the course you should be able to:

* Be able to engage in basic dialogues, introduce themselves, ask and answer simple questions, and describe their daily routines
* Use numbers for prices, to tell time, talk about dates and days of the week
* Able to handle common situations, such as ordering food, asking for directions, and making simple travel arrangements
* Basic grammar including verb conjugations in the present tense, noun-adjective agreement, and the use of articles
* Use common greetings, farewells, and basic phrases for everyday interactions

You will also be asked to think of Personal Aims to individualise your learning experience, as well as another benefits the course may have.

Additional Information

From 1st August 2024, the Department for Education (DfE) require that learners attending this course must identify their primary purpose for learning. This course is not available for learners whose main aim is to learn a hobby, or for leisure/pleasure.

If you do have a pre-arranged commitments booked during term time, please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcome.
