Who can join this course

This course is designed for learners who have completed the Portuguese Beginners First Steps course or have an equivalent level of basic Portuguese knowledge. It is ideal for those who can understand and use simple expressions and sentences but wish to expand their vocabulary, improve their grammar, and gain more confidence in speaking and understanding Portuguese in everyday situations.

If you have a foundational understanding of Portuguese and are eager to build on that knowledge, this course is perfect for you. Whether you want to enhance your language skills for travel, work, or personal enrichment, the Portuguese Further Steps course will help you progress to a more intermediate level. You will engage in more complex conversations, understand a wider range of topics, and improve your ability to communicate effectively in Portuguese.

Course aims

By the end of the course you should be able to:

* Engage in conversations on familiar topics, expressing opinions and preferences
* Understand and use more complex grammatical structures, including past and future tenses
* Expand your vocabulary to include a wider range of everyday and thematic topics
* Improve your listening comprehension skills through exposure to native speakers and authentic materials
* Write short texts, such as emails or messages, with increased accuracy and fluency

You will also be asked to think of Personal Aims to individualise your learning experience, as well as another benefits the course may have.

Additional Information

From 1st August 2024, the Department for Education (DfE) require that learners attending this course must identify their primary purpose for learning. This course is not available for learners whose main aim is to learn a hobby, or for leisure/pleasure.

If you do have a pre-arranged commitments booked during term time, please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcome.
