Who can join this course

Kent Family Learning courses and workshops are free for parents, carers and grandparents, who are aged 19 years and above and who live in Kent and are intended to help create a better family life. All courses are funded by the Education and Skills Funding Agency and are FREE to eligible learners. To be eligible you must be able to answer ’yes’ to BOTH statements below:

1. Have you been living in the UK or an EEA country continuously for at least 3 years prior to the learning start date, and
2. Are you a UK national, or Irish national or do you have pre-settled or settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme?

Please speak with us if you cannot answer ‘yes’ to both statements as you may be able to gain a place if you can provide suitable residency evidence.

Welcome to "Understanding Your Teenager" – an in-depth course designed to provide parents with valuable insights into the teenage experience and the development of the teenage brain. Learners will embark on a journey of discovery, gaining a deeper understanding of their teenager's world and learning effective strategies for improving communication and strengthening family bonds.
In "Understanding Your Teenager," participants will delve into adolescent development, exploring the unique challenges and opportunities that come with this transformative stage of life. Through discussions and interactive activities, parents will gain valuable insights into the teenage brain, helping them better understand their teenager's thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.
Throughout the course, learners will have the opportunity to connect with other parents, sharing experiences and learning from one another in a supportive and collaborative environment. From open communication and mutual support, parents can gain new perspectives and practical tips for dealing with the ups and downs of family life with a teenager.

What will I need for my course

For face-to-face sessions, we will provide the resources, but you are welcome to bring additional items if you would like to.

To get the most out of your course we recommend you attend at least 85% of your sessions. If you do have a pre-arranged commitment booked during term time, please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcome.
