You must meet the entry requirements for the course
- You must be a UK national, or an Irish national, or an EEA national with pre-settled or settled status under the EU Settlement scheme
- You must have been resident in the UK or an EEA country continuously for the 3 years preceding the start date of your course. For learners living in the Greater London Authority area only you must have valid permission to live in the UK for at least 12 months in duration from the start date of your course.
- You must be aged 19 or over as at the 31st August 2024 for courses in the 2024/25 academic year
- You must agree to commit to and complete an Individual Learning Plan in agreement with your course tutor
Who can join this course
Kent Family Learning courses and workshops are free for parents, carers and grandparents, who are aged 19 years and above and who live in Kent and are intended to help create a better family life. All courses are funded by the Education and Skills Funding Agency and are FREE to eligible learners. To be eligible you must be able to answer ’yes’ to BOTH statements below:
1. Have you been living in the UK or an EEA country continuously for at least 3 years prior to the learning start date, and
2. Are you a UK national, or Irish national or do you have pre-settled or settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme?
Please speak with us if you cannot answer ‘yes’ to both statements as you may be able to gain a place if you can provide suitable residency evidence.
Learners may enrol onto courses in this subject area, up to a maximum of 240 guided learning hours. Please refer to our Course details for the subject area, and guided learning hours assigned to this course.

Is this course for me
Welcome to "Who’s Pulling the Strings" – a course providing support and guidance for families experiencing challenges with the balance of power in the home. In this course, parents and carers will find practical strategies to address severe behaviour issues and concerns stemming from an inappropriate balance of power.
Throughout "Who’s Pulling the Strings," participants will embark on a journey of exploration and transformation, guided by experienced facilitators. Together, we will identify underlying dynamics contributing to the imbalance in the home environment and work collaboratively to implement effective solutions.
Learners will have the opportunity to try out new strategies aimed at re-establishing boundaries, promoting respect, and fostering a positive home environment. Through interactive exercises and role-playing scenarios, parents and carers will gain practical skills for addressing power struggles and promoting healthy family dynamics. By the end of the program, learners will feel empowered to navigate challenges with confidence and resilience, creating a harmonious and supportive environment where every family member feels valued and respected. Together, let's take proactive steps to restore balance and harmony in our homes, ensuring the well-being and happiness of all family members. This course is for parents of 11-19 year olds.
