Meet our tutors - Candice Fanning

Candice Fanning is a Public Speaking tutor at Kent Adult Education, giving learners the confidence to stand up and talk in front of a crowd. Over the past 16 years Candice has been developing her courses from scratch, focusing on non-verbal communication, body language and how to project a positive image using tone of voice, pitch, and pace.

Candice started her Career as a professional actress at the age of 5, when she passed her LAMDA exams with Honours. She has since worked as a presenter on Sky Television, BBC Radio Kent and CBBC on live programmes, so has a lot of experience in speaking in public. She has also taught Acting and Theatre Studies, Tap, Ballet, History and Latin.

Candice says: “I have empathy for some of my learners being introverted as my mother was painfully shy! Her ideas were fascinating, and she was highly articulate but often too shy to talk in front of people. I longed to give her confidence. Every time I help someone improve and speak in front of an audience, I remember her and smile.”

Candice’s passion for teaching came from her Classics teacher at school who taught with vibrancy and charisma, installing self confidence in all her students.

Each course Candice teaches is tailored to meet the needs of the learner, based on their subject knowledge and confidence. She will discuss with the learner on what they wish to achieve on the course and will go through techniques reading verses to become more confident in performing in front of an audience.

She says: “I am learner centred and I believe in teaching how I learn with lots of visual stimulus, activities, clips, websites, quizzes in a light-hearted and welcoming environment whereby everybody is engaged and thinking on their feet! My classes are fun, lively and light-hearted.”
