Meet our tutors - Gillian Martin
Gillian Martin is a Fitness & Wellbeing tutor for Kent Adult Education and has been a member of the Keep Fit Association (KFA) for over 50 years.
With a passion for ballet growing up, Gillian has always had an interest in keeping fit and joined her local Adult Education Keep Fit classes after having her first child. She got hooked and decided to train for her KFA teaching qualification and later went on to become a tutor trainer as well.
Now aged 75, Gillian continues to inspire and support colleagues with her passion for fitness and dedication to professional development to ensure that she delivers exceptional learning experiences for all learners.
Gillian supports new learners by calling them prior to their first lesson to gather important information that is used to help plan appropriate alternative exercises and to ensure suitable equipment to support reasonable adjustments in place. This helps learners establish a relationship with her whilst helping to improve confidence.
She says she is passionate about passing on her love and knowledge of movement to others, seeing them grow in self-confidence and in some cases becoming a tutor themselves.
I'm one of Gilly's new students. I’ve felt isolated over the past two years and was very worried about learning online. I didn’t think I would relate to anyone or even really feel the benefit of the exercises properly because I wasn't “in class”. How wrong was I?!

Before we started Gilly called and asked me questions to find out what I wanted to achieve. We discussed my medical conditions and Gilly gave me advice about how to set up my "workout space" and what to expect.
Together we created personal goals (which I wasn't expecting), but they have helped me to keep focused and motivated.
Gilly has so much experience and her teaching style is relaxed, friendly and so supportive. She inspires us to challenge ourselves and is always sharing new information and I'm thankful for her endless energy and commitment to healthy living.
