Meet our tutors - Michal Kamil Piotrowski
Meet our tutor Michal, who teaches Spanish at Kent Adult Education. Michal has always loved being a teacher and taught his first student at the age of 13! Michal says "It's extremely satisfying and fulfilling when your students become well-versed in what caused them trouble in the beginning." Although Michal currently teaches Spanish, he has also taught science, foreign languages and art classes.
KAE: Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
Michal: Powerful female artists who persevered such as Frida Kahlo, Yoko Ono, Virginia Woolf and many more.
KAE: Why do you enjoy teaching?
Michal: Teaching is one of the most rewarding jobs - I can actually change lives for the better. I also love how quickly I see results of my hard work.
KAE: What is your approach to teaching?
Michal: When teaching Spanish, I tend to use as much foreign language as possible and I encourage students to use just Spanish as well. If needed, I explain things in English too, but only after I explained everything in Spanish. I believe students need to immerse themselves in Spanish and using mostly English is counterproductive. I make sure that classes are fun too.
KAE: What makes your classes different?
Michal: I give a lot of advise on how to learn at home to make better progress and become more independent. I have a personal approach to every student - I don't see a group, I see a collection of humans with their own hopes, dreams, talents and difficulties.
KAE: What do your courses involve?
Michal: Before I start teaching a course, I create a well-structured and detailed curriculum that I will follow. I make sure that there is balance between theory and practice, and that classes are innovative and fun!
