Meet our tutors - Victoria Wainwright
Victoria Wainwright is an artist/illustrator with a fascination for all media including pen and ink, watercolour, oils, printmaking and sometimes mixing it all up together. She is also a keen silversmith, making her own sterling silver jewellery and castle christening boxes under the title viksilver.
"I came across Adult Ed when I had a sudden, overwhelming desire to take up silversmithing. I did a course with a great tutor and later someone suggested that I should teach what I love. Over ten years later I am absolutely loving teaching. I have a real passion for drawing, getting inky, using watercolour washes and playing with oils and acrylic. Pretty much every media inspires me and it's great to mix them up. My students teach me and motivate me so much that it has become the perfect balance for my own creative work."
Victoria enjoys sharing her creative passion with her students and she says she learns so much from them. She said: "I do believe that everyone can draw or create and that it is a wonderful way to engage with the world and to help maintain good mental health. Being creative is exceptionally important for wellbeing, especially now."
Victoria encourages her students to have fun on her courses, rather than focus on the end goal which will happen organically she says.
Bringing creativity out in a friendly and welcoming environment is something Victoria is passionate about. She says she likes to promote a happy atmosphere where everyone can celebrate their own distinctive style and skill in their work. She said: "Drawing and painting should be fun and I like my students to engage and learn from each other and enjoy the sociability of being with a class."
Victoria offers a variety of weekly and one day courses in the Arts, aimed at various levels. You can expect to learn from doing exercises in colour and tone, working towards a main picture and experimental techniques.
