By the end of the day, students should be able to:
1) Describe what is meant by the therapeutic relationship in counselling.
2) Recognise why self-awareness is a significant part of understanding difference and diversity.
3) Identify the three core conditions of being a counsellor.
4) Identify at least 3 internal and external barriers to listening.
5) Demonstrate the use of listening skills in a brief triad situation.
6) Outline the CPCAB qualification structure and assessment processes.
7) Participate in a question and answer session.
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: To Be Advised
How will I be taught?
This course uses learner-centred teaching in a supportive environment, aiming to help students develop their skills and increase their knowledge.
There are opportunities to discuss your progress with the tutor, who can provide feedback and suggestions.
What do I need to have with me?
A laptop/computer with a camera and access to Zoom is essential for online work.
You may wish to use a notebook and pen.
What can I do next?
The next step is Counselling Skills Certficate Level 2 depending on your previous experience in the supportive/helping role. We also offer other non-accredited self-development courses. Please speak to your tutor for advice or the website at www.kentadulteducation.co.uk for further information.
During your course your tutor will offer guidance in relation to your personal progression route. Courses are designed to progress you to further study or into employment. In addition, some of our courses support access to Further and Higher Education opportunities. The KAE website has information about these courses and developing your own business. Please speak with your tutor if you have an interest in self-employment or an interest in developing a career. We can also help you access the National Careers Service.
What do I need to join the course
There are no enrolment requirements for this course. No experience is necessary but students must be willing to participate in role play, as we practice basic listening skills which will be set in the context of current counselling theory.
Anyone interested in self-development and the world of counselling or who needs these skills in their job or in their personal life will benefit from this course.
For your safety, we require you to have your camera switched on during online courses.
