Cake Decorating - Beginners

Craft courses provide an opportunity for students to learn and develop skills and techniques. Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstration, instructions, one-to-one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques.

Our courses are taught by qualified and experienced tutors most of whom are practising craftspeople.


At the start of the course you will work with your tutor to develop an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) to set out what you want to achieve by the end of the course. You will both monitor and assess your progress throughout the course to ensure your learning needs are being met. There are no formal exams or tests to complete on this course.

You will need:
- A basic tool kit if you have one
- 500g sugarpaste
- A pen and notebook
- An apron


You will need to bring cakes, icing and tools with you each week, these are not included although we do have some tools you can borrow. Please do not purchase any equipment until you speak to the tutor during the first session.

You can attend further Beginners courses or progress to Improvers courses. Your tutor will be able to advise you on the best route to take.

Everyone is welcome, suitable for those with little or no previous experience and anyone wanting to brush up their skills and pick up tips from a proffessional cake decorator.

It is important to note that craft courses are practical, requiring a degree of manual dexterity.
This course is suitable for anyone interested in cake decorating from complete beginners to those with a little prior experience.
