This course offers an opportunity to study the background to modern day calligraphic scripts. The Italic script is based on 16th Century Humanist hands. You will consider historic and modern examples and experiment using different media, tools and materials.
This course will introduce the broad edge pen and cover the basics of writing a formal script, using ink and colour and how to approach the basic design elements. Each student will have an opportunity to select a modern Renaissance inspired project to work on and complete a calligraphic design.
There is no qualification for this course.
There is limited parking on site, but there is a public car park nearby and on-street parking.

How will I be taught?
There will be individual and group tuition and demonstrations.
There will be individual and group feedback.
There is no set homework but optional homework may be set.
What do I need to bring with me?
If you already have some calligraphy tools and materials, please bring them along. If not, the tutor will supply what you need for the session - please pay the tutor direct for these, estimated cost £2 - £3. If you already have a ruler (30cm or preferably longer), a pencil and eraser, a small watercolour brush, palette, water jar, colour pencils, please bring them along.
