This 'Childhood Sexual Abuse A - Understanding the Impact on a Survivor' workshop in Ashford Gateway is aimed at supporting professionals who wish to learn more about this area, including those working with psychological therapies.
The course content covers:
• Risk and resilience factors
• Effects on the child/adult
• Why the child keeps the secret
• Effect on the family
• The helper’s own attitude to sex
• The perpetrator
• Treatment approaches
The course is delivered through tutor presentations and small group discussions on reflective activities.
This course is educational rather than therapeutic. General broad ideas will be shared and discussed amongst the group. There could be some sharing of personal experiences but this course is not a replacement for personal therapy and this element will be carefully managed by the tutor.
The course provides 5 hours of CPD.
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Janet Beale
Janet Beale is a MBACP accredited Counsellor/Psycho-therapist, and has worked for at least 20 years as a Therapeutic Counsellor/Psychological Practitioner, and Clinical Supervisor for the NHS, Primary Care Trust, and in private practice. She also works as a South Regional Training Officer for The National Counselling Society.
Trained at Greenwich University, Janet holds a Master of Science in Therapeutic Counselling, and specialises in working with issues of confidence and assertiveness, and all Mental Health issues, working from an integrative approach using Person Centred, Psycho-dynamic and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.
She also holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Education, and has taught Counselling Courses and GCSE Psychology for the Kent Adult Education Services for 7 years.
How will I be taught?
The course is delivered via tutor presentations and small/whole group discussion. Course handouts will be provided on the day as appropriate.
During the day course your tutor will feedback to you and check your understanding. You will also complete an end of course evaluation.

A notepad and pen.

The 'Childhood Sexual Abuse B - Working with Survivors' workshop. Your tutor will be able to give you individual advice regarding your progression.
During your course your tutor will offer guidance in relation to your personal progression route. Courses are designed to progress you to further study or into employment. What do I need to join the course
Everyone is welcome to join the course as no prior experience or knowledge is required, but it will be especially suitable for those working in Health and Social Care fields within the statutory and voluntary sectors where childhood sexual abuse (CSA) is identified as an underlying concern for their client group.
The course content is tailored to meet the needs of a variety of support staff roles, including counsellors/psychotherapists whose client base includes abuse survivors.
