Would you like to experience and enjoy observing the Sea Edge to produce sketches that will be be used to inform your painting of seascapes in to your own individual style. This course will involve going out on location, so please check weather on the day and bring appropriate clothing. This course will be split into a morning session of drawing seascapes on location followed in the afternoon in the studio to develop your drawings into paintings.
By the end of this course you will
- Produce a set of sketches from location observation
- Develop pictorial quality using proportion and execution
- Experiment with colour and texture using of light and tone
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Stephen Thompson
Stephen Thompson BA Hons Fine Art, is a highly respected artist and teacher, with many years of teaching experience across all education sectors, including Head of Art at the English College in Prague. Stephen continues to exhibit work regularly and maintains an active presence in the Folkestone Art scene.
How will I be taught?
Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists and you will keep a sketchbook/notebook & individual learning plan (ILP) to record goals, ideas, processes and progress.Students will need to understand the potential benefit from the programme of study, read and interpret ideas, communicate responses that are clear, logical and understandable and manage your own time. You will undertake critical reflection and evaluation and be motivated to develop creative skills and enhance/develop personal skills.
What do I need to bring with me?
If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. However, all students should bring an A4 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, preferably with a hard cover and ring bound and a variety of pencils.
You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements.
If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please bring them with you.
Please note check weather and bring appropriate clothing as regardless of the weather we will be on location.
