This 'Computing - Bronze - The Basics' course in Folkestone will provide you with a simple introduction to computing in a relaxed, supportive atmosphere. You will learn how to turn the computer on and will cover the essential skills needed to operate a computer including understanding the keyboard and using the mouse.

The course will cover:
- Identifying the key components of the computer
- Navigating the desktop
- Exploring the keyboard
- Opening the Windows programs

This course will take place in the computer suite and is designed to raise your confidence and provide you with a foundation for computing study. The course is the first step in a series of courses designed to support you in developing your computing skills.

You will receive a £10 discount on the next course in the series, 'Computing - Silver - Getting Started' if you have attended this course.

On successful completion of this course you will be provided with an attendance certificate.

There is no parking on site, but there is limited street parking and a public car park available nearby.

How will I be taught?

Your tutor will use a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles, including one to one guidance and group critiques to support you in achieving your goals. The course will be taught in a relaxed and informal atmosphere, which will try to cater for your individual needs. Your tutor will provide feedback throughout the course.

Your starting point is recorded on an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and targets are set to help you develop your skills and reach your goals.

Our computing courses are taught using the Windows® 10 operating system and Microsoft® Office 2016 software.

What can I do next?

'Computing - Silver - Getting Started' is available for you on successful completion of this course. The 'Computing - Silver - Getting Started' course will cover simple word-processing, including typing documents, basic formatting and editing and saving these documents and using spreadsheets, including basic formatting of cells and cutting, copying and pasting data.

You will receive a £10 discount for 'Computing - Silver - Getting Started' if you have attended this 'Computing - Bronze - The Basics' course in any of our centres during the same academic year. Enrol early as places cannot be guaranteed.
During your course your tutor will offer guidance in relation to your personal progression route. Courses are designed to progress you to further study or into employment. In addition some of our courses support access to Further and Higher Education opportunities. KAE web site has information about these courses and developing your own business. Please speak with your tutor if you have an interest in self-employment or an interest in developing a career. We can also help you access the National Careers service.

What do I need to join the course

Everyone is welcome to join the course. The course is suitable for absolute beginners. You do not need to have any previous computing knowledge or experience to attend this course.

You will ideally have access to a computer in order to practise the skills you have learned during class time between sessions.
