The course will involve full learner participation and self-reflection. There will be personal and sensitive discussions in small and large groups, group activities and role plays in triads (groups of three) followed by observer feedback. You will be asked to write a weekly reflective learning journal.

Assessment is by completion of an online portfolio and tutor observation of practical skills during the course.

A computer/laptop with a camera in case we need to go online and a notebook and pen.

If you are interested in progressing towards a professional counselling training programme, you can go on to study for CPCAB’s Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills with kent Adult Education. During your course your tutor will offer guidance in relation to your personal progression route. Courses are designed to progress you to further study or into employment. Please speak with your tutor if you have an interest in self-employment or an interest in developing a career. We can also help you access the National Careers service.

Everyone is welcome to join and there are no enrolment requirements for this course. This is a Level 2 course with written work required, and you will be expected to complete work at this level.. You should be able to follow spoken and written instructions, read handouts/exercises and take part in group discussions.

This course is for those who have little or no prior experience of counselling or official helping roles.
