This course will teach you the secrets of getting started in crochet. You will learn a selection of basic stitches through a series of small crochet projects. By the end of the course, you will understand how to start and finish a project.

This course is ideal for anybody looking for a mindful and addictive hobby or wanting to learn a new skill.

Disclaimer: Once you pick up a crochet hook, you won’t be able to stop!

By the end of the course, you should be able to:
Show how to start and finish a crochet project.
Demonstrate 2 basic crochet stitches.
Explain how to stitch count.
Explain the health and safety considerations for tools and resources you have used.


Our courses are designed for students to build confidence and develop new skills to allow each learner the ability to undertake their own projects independently. Connecting with fellow enthusiasts whilst participating in a Craft course provides an opportunity to connect with other like-minded individuals who share your interest in the chosen craft. You can exchange ideas, share experiences, and potentially build a network within the crafting community.

How will I be taught?

Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstration, instructions, one-to-one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will be encouraged to look at the work of other crafts people and artists, both contemporary and historical and keep a sketchbook/ notebook to record goals/ ideas, processes and self-assessment
Our courses are taught by qualified and experienced tutors most of whom are practising crafts people.

What do I need to bring with me?

-a pen and notebook
-a set of basic crochet hooks
-scissors
-several skeins of yarn (initially recommended to bring a minimum of one skein with further details given during the first lesson. A cheap/ basic DK yarn is recommended to practice with at the beginning.

What can I do next?

The tutor will be able to give advice on progression pathways.

What do I need to join the course

All abilities welcome. Suitable for beginners.
Craft courses require a level of dexterity, if you need to bring a carer or support worker with you please contact the centre before enrolling to arrange this.
