The course is for students in the early stages of learning English, who already have some of the language. It is not for complete beginners. You can already understand and use familiar expressions and basic phrases. You can respond if spoken to slowly. You can write letters and numbers on a line with the correct spacing. You can read simple short texts on familiar topics and obtain information from signs and symbols.
You will learn basic practical English for everyday life and for working in the UK and you will make progress with the basic grammar of English. The main focus of the class will be reading and writing but you will also have the chance to improve your speaking and listening skills, especially through your Individual Learning Plan and homework

How will I be taught?

You will work on a variety of activities as a class and in small groups or pairs. This allows the tutor to attend to individual needs as well as to direct the learning of the group as a whole. Homework will be an essential part of the course.

An individual learning plan of work (ILP) is developed between you and the tutor. You will have tutorials with your tutor when you will be able to discuss your progress.

Additionally, your work will be regularly marked by your tutor who will give you oral/written feedback.

What do I need to bring with me?

Please bring a bilingual dictionary. A4 lined notebook, pens, pencils to hand. You will be required to keep a folder of your work. Your tutor will discuss this with you.

This course does not use a course book - all information will be provided to you by the tutor. It is essential you keep this information in a folder so you have a record of your work and can easily access the information

What can I do next?
