This Essential Digital Skills for work Level 1 course, (formerly ECDL), delivered in Maidstone, will enable you to gain a recognised qualification to demonstrate your basic competence in computer skills.
The course is specifically designed so that you can gain a qualification, develop your IT skills and enhance your career prospects.
On the course you will cover:

- Operating systems and applications, including those typically used for computers (desktop/laptop) and mobile devices
- Safe and relevant internet searching techniques
- How to organise and store information using files, folders, hierarchy and tagging to enable efficient information retrieval across devices
- How to identify and apply solutions to common technical problems
- Using applications to create word-processing documents, spreadsheets and presentations to enter, edit, format, layout information (including text, tables, graphics, charts)
- How to edit and enhance a digital image
- Privacy and data protection
- Productivity Using IT
- Online purchasing productivity and best practices
- Managing online identity


**PLEASE NOTE: Access to a computer running Windows 10 and Microsoft® Office 2016 is essential if homework, practical tests and self study is to be completed. You may be able to attend with a computer running Office 2019 or Microsoft 365.**

** There are several exams that need to be passed to gain this qualification. There will be two additional SATURDAY lessons scheduled approximately mid-course and end-course reserved for exams taking place in Maidstone Adult Education centre. The dates will be agreed during the course with the final exam taking place on 24th July, unless another date is mutually agreed upon between the tutor and all students.**

**Regular attendance, a high level of commitment and approximately 2.5 hours of home study is a requirement from you, enrolling on this course. You are advised to read the course syllabus prior to attending the first lesson.

How will I be taught?

Your tutor will use a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles, including one to one guidance and group critiques to support you in achieving your goals. The course will be taught in a relaxed and informal atmosphere, which will try to cater for your individual needs. Your tutor will provide feedback throughout the course.

Teaching, learning and assessment are carried out through formal taught sessions, discussion, work sheets, practice papers, home study, feedback and evaluation and externally assessed tests.

What can I do next?

This course can lead to a Level 2 qualification or you may wish to further your learning on shorter courses covering areas such as pivotTables within Microsoft® Office Excel.

What do I need to join the course

Our computing courses are most suitable for the Windows® 10 operating system and Microsoft® Office 2016 software.

This course is for students who are looking to improve their existing computing skills or build on previous qualifications.

You will need good keyboard and mouse skills to undertake this level of study. Please note that you should be able to follow spoken and written instructions, read handouts/activities and take part in group discussions as required.
