This course is suitable for both the experienced printmaker and the beginner. Students are encouraged to bring in their own sources of inspiration, be it in the form of sketch books or photographs. These ideas are then transformed into a suitable print form.
Techniques covered will include traditional etching, drypoint, collagraphs and linocuts. The print studio has presses for all these forms, which are known as relief and intaglio printing. A range of materials to support the student's work such as metal, plastic or lino plates can be purchased throughout the course.
Students are required to bring an apron, a notebook but more importantly their own ideas to the course.

Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists and you will keep a sketchbook/notebook and individual learning plan (ILP) to record goals, ideas, processes and progress.Students will need to understand the potential benefit from the programme of study, read and interpret ideas, communicate responses that are clear, logical and understandable and manage your own time. You will undertake critical reflection and evaluation and be motivated to develop creative skills and enhance/develop personal skills.

At the start of the course you will work with your tutor to develop an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) to set out what you want to achieve by the end of the course. You will both monitor and assess your progress throughout the course to ensure your learning needs are being met. There are no formal exams or tests to complete on this course.
