This is an online course delivered using Zoom, in real time with live interaction with your tutor and fellow learners.
This course follows on from our German Beginners Plus course and is the first year of our Intermediate course.
Do you want to be able to use your German in a range of real life situations? This is the aim of our German Lower Intermediate course. Exchanging in real time with your tutor and other students will give
you the opportunity to practice speaking in German with other learners to develop your language skills further.
According to the results of the Initial Assessment and the needs and interests of the group, students should be able to achieve four of the following by the end of the course:

• Describe (people, places, situations, events etc) and make comparisons
• Exchange/extract key information on a variety of topics/situations
• Give and follow specific instructions
• Make simple arrangements
• Express an opinion
• Deal with emergencies, problems and complaints
• Listen and respond to information from a range of sources (telephone messages, news headlines/public announcements, instructions, conversations)
• Grasp general meaning of written material (e-mails, mobile text messages, letters, notices, leaflets etc)

Grammar will be expanded. You will learn to use expressions and forms appropriate to the language using present, future and some past tenses. You will be given small amounts of homework (1 hour
max) each week to reinforce classroom learning.

How will I be taught?

The focus will be on speaking and listening. Some reading and writing will also be included. Pronunciation and German culture are an integral part of the course. The course will be conducted mainly in the foreign language. Learners will work through different activities individually, in pairs and in small groups, using a variety of learning methods and resources (role-play and games etc). Homework set will provide an opportunity for self-study to reinforce learning. Initial assessment will be carried out at the beginning of the course to assess individual skill level. Each student' starting point will be recorded on an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) to set targets. This will be revisited regularly during the course to monitor and record progress. Tutors will mark homework and give written or verbal feedback.

What do I need to have with me?

The course book will be discussed at the first session if appropriate. Students will need to bring a pen and paper and an A4 ring binder for printouts, although we advise students not to buy anything until after the first session.

What can I do next?

You can continue with another Lower Intermediate course. After one year of study, you can progress to Upper Intermediate. The tutor or the Curriculum Leader will be able to advise or check www.kentadulteducation.co.uk.
During your course your tutor will offer guidance in relation to your personal progression route. Courses are designed to progress you to further study or into employment. In addition some of our courses support access to Further and Higher Education opportunities. KAE web site has information about these courses and developing your own business. Please speak with your tutor if you have an interest in self-employment or an interest in developing a career. We can also help you access the National Careers service.

What do I need to join the course

For anybody who is looking to improve the practical speaking and listening skills needed to cope with a range of real life situations more complex than those at Beginners Plus level.

approximately 100 hours and who can express themselves and understand simple information relating to personal, work or social matters.
If you are unsure carry out our self-assessment test available on www.kentadulteducation.co.uk. The assessment provides a score to help you chose the best course for you. If still unsure, speak to us or to
a Curriculum Leader.
