About this course:
This accredited course gives the opportunity for students with an interest in interior design to explore the principles of interior design; colour theory; pattern; lighting; space planning and sourcing for interiors.
The emphasis is on creativity and students will complete a design for a living or bedroom. This will include the complete design process from initial concept through design, planning and costing.
Work will be continuously assessed with regular feedback from your tutor. A largely practical course, students have the opportunity to create functional, attractive designs and gain experience and confidence in creating successful design schemes.
Some homework is required, approximately 1 hour per week.
This course provides students with a insight into a career with interior design.
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
Recognise and apply the principles of Interior Design
Identify colour theory and apply these to your design
Create a basic lighting plan for your design
Complete 1:20 cm Scale drawing and apply furniture layouts plans
Demonstrate how to create a working mood board
Source and identify products for your design
Complete and plan a schedule of installation
Design and create a scheme for a Living room/Bedroom
Explain health & safety considerations applicable to the design process

How will I be taught?
At the start of the course you will work with your tutor to develop an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) to set out your prior learning and what you want to achieve by the end of the course alongside the learning outcomes listed above.
You will complete tasks and assignments according to the course syllabus, to successfully achieve the outcomes, with guidance from the tutor.
You will receive initial and ongoing feedback from your tutor. It is key that you also monitor and assess your progress throughout the course, to ensure your learning needs are being met and course and personal outcomes are being achieved.
Your Level 1 certificate will be awarded on completion of the outcomes of the course, listed below.

What can I do next?
Further creative craft qualifications in further or higher education, your tutor will be able to advise you. The City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Interior Design would develop your skills further, particularly if you are considering running your own Interior design practice or working within the field.
