About the Tutor: Duncan Kings

Duncan Kings is a painter, printmaker, ceramicist and sculptor. He studied BA Fine Art at Maidstone and MA printmaking at Chelsea Art School. He works in a broad range of media, materials and techniques and has been teaching art and design for over 30 years. Duncan regularly exhibits and his work is on permanent display at the Derby Museum, Shepherd and Neame Brewery and the Leicester Regiment, and he has also worked on large scale murals. The tutor will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists and you will keep a sketchbook/notebook and individual learning plan (ILP) to record your goals, ideas, processes and progress. One to one guidance, group critiques, self-assessment against individualised learning outcomes stated on the ILP

If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. However, all students should bring an A4 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, preferably with a hard cover and ring bound and a variety of pencils.You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. Some of our centres have their own ‘shops' where you are able to buy things at competitive prices. If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please bring them with you.

During your course, your tutor will offer guidance in your personal progression route.
Courses are designed to progress students to higher levels of the Art. In addition, our courses support application to "Access to Degree Foundation courses" leading to Higher Education opportunities.
