Oil painting for those who want to produce oil paintings that are both tutor-led and student centred on a more challenging level then this is the course for you. Develop your paintings skills and further your understanding of colour mixing during this course. You will be encouraged to research and develop your own ideas from both observed and imagined starting points using a sketchbook.
By the end of the course you should be able to:
Use a wide range of tonal values
Devise compositions to communicate the artist’s intentions
Use strategies to create pictorial space
Use painting materials effectively
And work to the studios Health and Safety guidelines.

How will I be taught?
Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists and you will keep a sketchbook/notebook and individual learning plan (ILP) to record goals, ideas, processes and progress. You will undertake critical reflection and evaluation and be motivated to develop creative skills and enhance/develop personal skills.
At the start of the course you will work with your tutor to develop an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) to set out what you want to achieve by the end of the course. You will both monitor and assess your progress throughout the course to ensure your learning needs are being met. There are no formal exams or tests to complete on this course.
What do I need to bring with me?
If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. .You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please bring them with you.

During your course, your tutor will offer guidance in your personal progression route.
What do I need to join the course
Have completed a beginners oil painting course with Kent Adult Education at some point, or have an understanding of how to use oil paint and would like to learn further skills.
