This course at Cube Tontine Street Folkestone Kent will enable you to learn the basic skills of clothes making. The skills you will gain could take you to the first steps of starting a career - either in industry or setting up your own business.
You will be taught the basic techniques of garment construction which will include different types of pockets and collars as well as cuffs and sleeve openings. You will produce samples for each technique focussing on the set outcomes for the course.
You will be encouraged to assess your work throughout the course and assess your progress against the course outcomes.
Your Level 1 course will be awarded on completion of the outcomes of the course, listed below:-
- Demonstrate how to use pattern cutting equipment correctly.
- Identify Lay planning, costing fabric economically and the correct grain.
- Recognise the fabric characteristics and identify fabric.
- Identify and demonstrate a variety of hand stitches.
- Demonstrate accurately the role of pressing using steam and shaping
- Correctly assemble and fit a simple garment using a commercial or made pattern
- Work to health and safety guidelines

How will I be taught?
At the start of the course, you will work with your tutor to develop an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) to set out your prior learning and what you want to achieve by the end of the course alongside the learning outcomes listed above. It is vital that you engage with this process to achieve the outcomes and successfully complete the course.
You will complete tasks and assignments according to the course syllabus to successfully achieve the outcomes, with guidance from the tutor.
You will receive initial and ongoing feedback from your tutor. It is key that you also monitor and assess your progress throughout the course, to ensure your learning needs are being met and course and personal outcomes are being achieved.
There is no final exam for this course, Level 1 certification is awarded on achievement of the course outcomes.

IMPORTANT! Please note any equipment brought in by students must be clean and in full working order with all the necessary attachments. Our Tutors will not be able to carry out any repairs.
