This Tai Chi course in Gravesend is aimed at anyone interested in exercise, keep fit and maintaining an active, healthy lifestyle.

You will learn and perform a variety of Tai Chi sequences and exercises aimed at improving muscle tone, strength and flexibility.

You will need to be able to follow verbal instructions, observe and copy physical movements and use spatial awareness within a group. By the end of this course you should be able to:
• Explain the philosophy, history and terminology of Tai Chi
• Demonstrate the form using correct alignment
• Identify the benefits of regular Tai Chi practice
• Recount at least three ways in which Tai Chi can benefit health and wellbeing throughout various life stages.

To assist us in providing a safe and healthy environment for you to exercise you will be asked to complete a Confidential Health Questionnaire. If you have suffered from any of the conditions listed, please check with a medical practitioner to find out whether this course is suitable for you.
- Do you ever have chest pain?
- Have you had any operations or injuries in the last year?
- Do you often feel faint or dizzy?
- Are you on long term medication?
- Do you have high or low blood pressure?
- Do you have a bone or joint problem, such as Arthritis, Osteoporosis, back or knee problems?

How will I be taught?

You will be taught by a qualified Tai Chi instructor.

Our teaching methods include demonstration, explanation, discussion and times for question and answer sessions. Your tutor will demonstrate movements and talk you through all exercises. You will be carefully observed to ensure that you are working safely.

To assist us in providing a safe and healthy environment for you to exercise you will be asked to complete a Confidential Health Questionnaire at the start of your course. Your Confidential Health Questionnaire also includes your own assessment of your own fitness levels. This information will be used by you and your tutor to reflect on and monitor your progress. Your tutor will also use this information to ensure that all of your personal goals are achieved and provide individual support where necessary.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. We ask all students to provide feedback at the end of the course.

What do I need to bring with me?

Please read the following information carefully; you may be advised not to take part if you are not dressed appropriately. You will need supportive, comfortable clothing that allows ease of movement. Restrictive denim jeans, formal trousers, shorts, skirts or dresses are not suitable for this activity. Supportive boots or trainers are needed to support the feet and ankles. Outdoor sandals, high heeled shoes or occasion boots are not appropriate for these classes.

Please bring water and avoid eating one and a half hours prior to exercising.
