About the Tutor: James Rowdon

James Rowdon was born in Dorset and studied both jazz and classical styles of guitar. He obtained a degree in contemporary music from Canterbury Christ Church University and takes great pride in seeing his students succeed on the guitar. James performs frequently throughout South East Kent in jazz and afrobeat ensembles, as well as performing solo classical guitar at local events.

Students will be taught both as a group and one to one, with opportunities to perform and practice. The tutor will give detailed instructions and demonstrations. To benefit fully from this course, students are advised to practice the chords, scales, exercises and pieces in their own time. Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will keep a notebook and update an individual learning plan (ILP) to record goals, ideas, processes and progress.

Learners will need their own Ukulele and tuner. The tuner can be either shop-bought or downloaded onto their phone/tablet. A music stand is advised to promote good posture. The course is aimed at beginners. If you have already been playing for a short time but still consider yourself a beginner, that is fine too, jjust be aware that the course will start from the basics.
