Watercolour - Beginners

About the Tutor: Victoria Wainwright

Victoria Wainwright is a professional Artist and Illustrator specialising in pen and ink and printmaking but with a varied background in illustration techniques and briefs. She regularly undertakes commission work where illustration is a feature, and has illustrated a number of published books. Victoria's main interest is in drawing people, capturing their movement and character.

Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists and you will keep a sketchbook/notebook and individual learning plan (ILP) to record goals, ideas, processes and progress. Students will need to understand the potential benefit from the programme of study, read and interpret ideas, communicate responses that are clear, logical and understandable and manage your own time. You will undertake critical reflection and evaluation and be motivated to develop creative skills and enhance/develop personal skills., At the start of the course you will work with your tutor to develop an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) to set out what you want to achieve by the end of the course. You will both monitor and assess your progress throughout the course to ensure your learning needs are being met. There are no formal exams or tests to complete on this course.

Please bring to your first lesson:
a round brush preferably a no 10, 12 or 14 watercolour brush ( eg. Daler Rowney Graduate or Aquafine)
Three tubes of paint in the primary colours, preferably alizarin red, lemon yellow and ultramarine blue(Student quality is fine but Artist quality is better)
300gm course cold pressed watercolour paper ( or buy some at the centre).
If you already have paints or brushes similar to above then please just bring those. Your tutor will then advise you about further materials.

Further Improvers or Advanced courses.

This course is for those new to the subject and also suitable for those who would also like to refresh their practice in this medium.
It is important to note that Art courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity. If you need to bring a carer with you, or be accompanied by another person, please ask to speak with the Programme Manager before you enrol.
