This is an online course delivered using Zoom, in real time with live interaction with your tutor and fellow learners.
This watercolour course is designed to give you a taste of an aspect of painting and drawing.
In this instance you will gain a more in depth knowledge of using watercolour as a medium in your artwork.
By the end of the course you will be able to
- Work from a variety of primary and secondary subject matter.
- Make a preliminary drawing to establish a composition.
- Select and use the appropriate brushes and materials.
- Explore colour mixing
- Identify a range of painting techniques for watercolour (washes, glazes, drybrush, wet in wet)
- Recognise the styles and techniques of fine artists.
- Work to health and safety guidelines.
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Angelo Pizzigallo
Angelo Pizzigallo is a practising artist who exhibits his work locally and in London galleries. Primarily a painter using water-based media, he uses vibrant colours and textures to create layered pictures, often of nocturnal scenes and figures in interiors. He also sometimes incorporates printed and found materials, calling it 'mixed up media'! A very experienced tutor, he has taught for Kent Adult Education for more than 10 years.
How will I be taught?
Our art courses provide an opportunity for students to learn and develop, skills, techniques and to acquire an understanding of the subject. Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, instructions, one to one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques. Students will need to look at the work of other artists both contemporary and historical and keep a sketchbook/notebook to record goals, ideas, processes and progress.
To ensure that students' learning needs are met, the tutor will work with the student to complete the required Individual Learning Plan.
What do I need to have with me?
Students need to provide their own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements.
All students should bring a sketchbook of at least A4 size, preferably with a hard cover and containing good quality cartridge paper and a selection of pencils B to 4B to the first class. You will also need watercolour paints,

What do I need to join the course
You should have completed one of our Beginners courses or Improvers courses or have some experience of watercolour
This course in designed for students who have some experience using watercolour and would like to develop their skills further.
It is important to note that art courses are practical, requiring a degree of manual dexterity.
You can access the class from your computer equipped with a camera and a microphone, from a laptop (where the camera and microphone should be built-in), a tablet or a smartphone. Before each lesson, the tutor may send you by email essential lesson information/handouts for you to consult in advance, and before the class starts, the tutor will have sent you by email an invitation to join, which will be a simple weblink to click.
