Italy in a glass
This course is designed for people who love Italy, enjoy its food and wine and want to learn more about it in a fun, friendly and relaxed setting - no previous wine tasting experience necessary!
At the end of the course you will:
• Be able to use professional vocabulary to describe the taste of a wine
• Pronounce the names of most important Italian red and white wines
• Know how to match wine with food
• Understand wine labels and improve your confidence in buying wine in supermarkets and wine shops
Course Breakdown:
Week 1 – Introduction to Wine Tasting / Food and Wine pairing
The first lesson will cover the basics: how wine is made, how to taste wine and describe its flavours. We'll talk about the white and red grape varieties and what they taste like, explaining the meaning of words like tannin, aromas, body of the wine and why some specific wines get better with age. We will also talk about wine and food pairing.
Week 2 – How to read a label
The second lesson is about the terms we find on an Italian wine label, how to decode them and how to make a good choice when buying, considering value for money. This will also give us the opportunity to discover the wine geography of Italy, travelling through the peninsula to see where the grapes discussed previously actually come from. We will also share some other useful tips like what is decanting and what temperature to serve it at.
