Our varied professional fitness and wellbeing programme is designed to improve mental, physical, and social health whilst encouraging a reduced dependency on statutory health services. Our aim is to improve self-care including setting health goals, reducing isolation, improving social wellbeing whilst delivering excellent courses which improve the health of our communities through the prevention of ill health and injury.

This course is suitable for those just starting out in Yoga and also those who wish to further develop and hone their practice.

By the end of this course you should be able to:
• Demonstrate and hold a variety of postures using correct alignment
• Practise control of breath to assist relaxation and stamina
• Identify the benefits of Yoga practice
• Link a number of postures to perform a flowing sequence

You will need to be able to follow verbal instructions, observe and copy physical movements and use spatial awareness within a group. Although there is no specific work set outside of the class, students will gain most benefit if exercises are performed regularly and practised between classes.

How will I be taught?

You will be taught by a qualified and experienced Yoga tutor. Teaching methods will include demonstration, explanation, discussion and times for question and answer sessions. Your tutor will demonstrate movements and talk you through all sequences. You will be carefully observed to ensure that you are working safely and be encouraged to monitor and record your progression on the course.
To assist us in providing a safe and healthy environment for you to exercise you will be asked to complete a Confidential Health Questionnaire. Your progress will be monitored through a Learning record and your own personal learning diary or fitness log.

What do I need to bring with me?

You will need supportive, comfortable clothing that allows ease of movement. Denim jeans, formal trousers, skirts or dress are not suitable for this activity. Yoga is generally practiced in bare feet or socks and all movements are performed on a mat. You may be advised not to take part if you are not dressed appropriately.

Students need to bring a mat to work on and may wish to bring a towel. Please bring water and avoid eating one and a half hours prior to exercising.

What can I do next?

Specialist advice is available from your tutor to help identify the next suitable course for you. Alternatively visit our website www.kentadulteducation.co.uk.
