About this course

Do you want to speak more French when in French speaking countries and build on your basic skills? This classroom based Beginners Plus - Summer school is for you.
Exchanging face to face with your tutor and other students will help you consolidate, expand and develop your confidence in your knowledge of basic key phrases and vocabulary.
Successful students should be able to :
• Understand and exchange information about self, work and daily routine
• Express likes and dislikes including hobbies
• Understand and exchange information about past holidays
• Follow simple instructions
• Understand announcements and extract information from e-mails etc.
Basic grammar will be taught and students will also gain an insight into French culture. You will be given small amounts of homework (1 hour max) each week to reinforce classroom learning.

How will I be taught?

The focus will be on oral communication (speaking and listening) and some reading and writing will also be included. Pronunciation and French culture are an integral part of the course. The course will be conducted mainly in the foreign language. Learners will work through different activities individually, in pairs and in small groups, using a variety of learning methods and resources (role-play and games etc). Homework set will provide an opportunity for self-study.
Initial assessment will be carried out at the beginning of the course to assess individual skill level. Each student' starting point will be recorded on an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and targets will be set. This will be revisited at the end of the course to monitor and record progress. The tutor will give written or verbal feedback.

What do I need to bring with me?

The course book will be discussed at the first session if appropriate. Students will need to bring a pen and paper and an A4 ring binder for handouts, although we advise students not to buy anything until after the first session.

What can I do next?

The appropriate follow-on course is an Intermediate or another Beginners Plus course. The tutor will be able to advise or please check our website at
