How will I be taught?
The course teaching will be a mix of tutor presentations, student exercises and skills practise in small groups and group discussions. Students are expected to participate fully in class discussions and draw upon their own life skills and experience. All students will be asked to keep a learning journal throughout the course and to complete some homework outside class.
Initial assessment will be carried out at the beginning of the course to assess individual skill level and course suitability. Each student's starting point will be recorded on an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and targets will be set. This will be revisited from time to time during the course and tutors will give you written or verbal feedback after monitoring your progress.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
What do I need to bring with me?
Handouts will be provided and you are advised to bring a pen and paper to make notes. Whilst there may be opportunities for you to practice the skills taught in class with fellow learners, you will get the most out of the course if you do practice at home as this will help you apply the skills to your everyday life.
What can I do next?
Your tutor will advise you on the appropriate follow-on course or other sources of further study.
